ContiTech Beattie Ltd, the Ashington-based market leader in hose technology for the oil and gas industry, will compete for no fewer than five awards in this year’s Manufacturing Excellence Awards, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMECHE).
A world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of flexible hose assemblies and associated hardware to the oil and gas sector, ContiTech Beattie is the only North East firm to be shortlisted for the 2008 awards.
Originally formed in 1960 as Beattie Hydraulics Limited, a manufacturer of carbon steel hydraulic hose fittings, the firm rebranded from Phoenix Beattie Limited to ContiTech Beattie Limited in 2008 and now employs 97 people, including 82 in Ashington and 14 in Aberdeen.
The business has increased its turnover from £16m in 2004 to £24m in 2007, and then to £28m in 2008, while at the same time increasing its operating profitability by 338% from 2004 to 2008, and by 75% from 2007 to 2008.
Having won the business development and change management award last year, highly commended in the people development category and shortlisted for the manufacturing process innovation award, ContiTech Beattie is this year nominated for the following categories:
Andrew Esson, managing director of ContiTech Beattie, said: “As well as the Manufacturing Excellence Awards, last year also saw ContiTech Beattie win two Northumberland Business Awards and the employer of the year title in the Wansbeck Business Awards. We have sought to use our 2008 award success as a springboard for further success, and 2008 saw a further growth of 17.4% in our turnover, from £23.8m in 2007 to £28.0m in 2008, and a further 70% increase in operating profitability from 2007 to 2008.
“These awards are a recognition of the hard work that everyone has put in, throughout the business and we hope to be able to expand on last year’s success.”
