eaga Funding Creates Jobs

Tuesday, 9 September 2008

Green support services company eaga has today announced its intention to build on expansion plans with the creation of an additional 270 jobs thanks to development funding from One NorthEast.

The regional development agency has granted Newcastle-based eaga £1.15m as part of its Selective Finance for Investment (SFI) scheme.

A string of recent contract wins have accelerated eaga’s expansion and this funding will help ensure it can keep recruiting and retaining skilled staff needed to manage the growth.

Jobs will be created across eaga’s North-East operations, which already employ more than 1,200 staff.

Last month eaga announced a ground-breaking partnership with Scottish Power worth in excess of £200 million to manage the energy giant’s entire Government-set Carbon Emission Reduction Target (CERT), requiring it to offer a raft of free or low cost energy saving measures to its customers.

Low Carbon/Access to Finance

The SFI scheme awards grants to companies for capital investment projects that lead to the creation or safeguarding of employment or the expansion or relocation of the company.

One NorthEast Director of Business and Industry, Ian Williams, said: “eaga is a genuine regional success story, providing high-quality jobs in a sector that is as important economically as it is environmentally.

“I’m delighted that we have been able to support eaga’s commitment to the North-East with this grant to help the business grow and develop.”
